In the remote Yungas Valley of Bolivia, where the Andes Mountains meet the Amazon rainforest, getting an education means risking your life every single day.
This documentary follows 7-year-old Elmer, who must cross a 650-foot-deep, 1,000-foot-long canyon using a rusted, homemade zip-line and a worn plastic bag. On the other side of the valley, young sisters Helen and Mariela endure a grueling, 5-hour daily round-trip trek through dense jungle terrain infested with deadly coral snakes, massive vertical drops, and sudden mountain downpours.
Even their teachers face mortal peril, commuting weekly from La Paz down the notorious "Death Road"—a narrow cliffside pass with thousands of feet of sheer drops.
Despite extreme poverty and terrifying daily commutes, these families refuse to give up. For them, a basic education is the only ticket to a better life.
